From the desk of GSSNE CEO, Dana Borrelli-Murray and GSSNE Board Chair Janice DiPietro:
This week is the triennial Girl Scout Convention and National Council Sessions. Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England is represented by a team voted on by our Council delegates. Over the past few days, we’ve debated, discussed and voted on proposals, motions and amendments to proposals that will set up Girl Scouts for the future. Girl Scouts are thoughtful and bold and articulate—this is parliamentary governance in action!
This year’s meetings are being held in Florida—in a time when nationally recognized organizations like the NAACP, the Human Rights Campaign, and Equality Florida have issued travel advisories against Florida, warning of the risks associated with visiting Florida following newly passed laws and policies that may be harmful to BIPOC, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ communities.
We at Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England stand in vocal opposition to these dangerous policies. We are here in order to cast our votes in support for a more inclusive Girl Scout Movement. By focusing our attention on community members who are furthest from racial, economic equity, and social justice, Girl Scouts can be an instrument of change, promoting equitable outcomes for all.
As National Delegates, we wholly commit to taking action to grow as an antiracist organization. Let us make a commitment to challenge injustice with courage, confidence, and character.
